From the streets of Iran
This has been the most exhilarating week in the history of Demotix. Our citizen-journalists in Iran have defied threats of violence and an internet black-out to bring their stories to the world.
The mainstream media has been listening. As of today, agencies Reuters, AFP and EPA are syndicating our content all over the world. Our images made the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal website front page; we've also been used by Dawn in Pakistan, L'Express in France and more around the world. Our coverage from Iran is generating massive buzz - our CEO Turi Munthe has appeared nine times on the BBC this week, and we're being talked about everywhere from Reuters, to the Toronto Star to CNBC.
It has been extraordinary to be part of this story; this is exactly why Demotix exists. The recognition and reputation we have built up this week will benefit all of our community, all around the world.
Digital Britain Demotix was featured by the British Government this week in a major report on the country's digital industry. We were included in the Digital Britain report's discussion of the important of news and local journalism for democracy - one of the few organizations to be specifically studied in the report. It's great to know that when academics and governments look forward to the future of journalism, they are pointing to Demotix as an exemplar.
