5.4 Million Dollar for Mobile Photo Solution!!!!!!!
PixSense Secures $5.4 Million in Series A Funding for Mobile Photo and Video Management Solution
ATA Ventures and Innovacom Are Lead Investors
Sanat Clara, CA, Dec. 18. 2006, BUSINESS WIRE. PixSense announced today that it has secured $5.4 million in equity funding, led by ATA Ventures and Innovacom. PixSense will use the funding to accelerate product development, service deployments, and increasing partnerships with mobile carriers worldwide.
PixSense’s patent-pending solution enables users to easily manage the media they create on their mobile phones, directly from the handset. Nearly 80% of mobile phones shipped in 2005 are equipped with digital cameras and one of the biggest problems camera phone owners face is utilizing their photos and videos. PixSense facilitates and simplifies the process of managing photos, videos, audio, blogs, and text from the mobile device. PixSense will be launching this solution with mobile carriers in early 2007.
The addressable market size for the PixSense solution is large. According to the Photo Marketing Association Intl, 79 billion camera-phone photos were taken in 2005, with a projected increase to 227 billion photos per year by 2009. Despite this, approximately 95% of mobile user-generated content stays on the handset until it gets deleted. PixSense solves the problem of managing, publishing, and sharing this content, for all mobile subscribers, including users who do not have a PC.
“PixSense is a pioneer in the digital media industry and possesses unique and innovative technology that has the power to change the way people use their mobile phones,” said Mike Hodges of ATA Ventures. “Our investment in PixSense underscores our confidence in their product offering, management team, and growth potential.”
“We’re very excited about PixSense because it solves a true infrastructure problem for operators to manage and appropriately monetize mobile media,” said Aymerik Renard of Innovacom. “We believe PixSense has the potential to become a very successful digital media software company addressing a very large market.”
Night Shooting Tips
Although there is a lot of information and advice here on About Photography to give you better pictures at night, much of it was about photography on film. Of course most of it still applies to digital, but there are differences, particularly in the ability of many newer digital cameras in particular to produce good results without flash in poor light. Film photographers do sometimes work in low light, 'pushing' (increasing sensitivity by longer development times) emulsions such as Kodak Tri-X from its normal ISO 400 speed to expose it at ISO 1600, but the results were high contrast and grainy. Great for gritty subjects, but not generally for everyday photography. (More on ISO speeds.)
Digital has changed that, with many cameras still capable of excellent results at ISO 1600, and some giving very usable performance at ISO 3200. In practice this means that instead of shooting at perhaps 1/8s at f2.8 at ISO 400, you can shoot at 1/30 at f2.8 at ISO 1600. Add to this the increasing incorporation of vibration reduction technology into lenses or cameras which enable sharp results at slower speeds, and also that the smaller sensors on digital cameras give a greater range of sharpness at wide lens apertures (increased 'depth of field') and night photography with digital has really moved into a different gear.
There are some limitations with digital, perhaps most importantly the way that highlights in images can more easily lose all detail, and some cameras produce very 'noisy' images at high ISOs (though still generally rather better than film.) But it struck me forcibly when writing these new features on digital photography at night, and choosing a few illustrations from my files, that I had used a tripod for only one of them. All the rest of the illustrations were made with a handheld camera, although one or two borrowed a handy wall or post for support. There are still uses for a tripod, but I've got out of the habit of carrying one unless I have a particular reason to do so. Credit: Peter Marshall

If you feel you already have existing images on the site which fit the bill, just add the unique code keyword to them.
And remember, the only way you can make your pictures available for consideration by the buyers in any Picture Call is to upload them to the fotoLibra site and to include the special Code Keyword among your other keywords. Please do not mark your images as Royalty Free and do not send them to me as there is nothing I can do with them - my opinion would be highly subjective and probably not helpful. Please also make sure that they always match or exceed the requested resolutions and file sizes.
Kind regards

Definition: Freelancer or Contract
A "freelance photographer" is one who operates their own business and
deals with clients on a contractural basis for individual assignments
or for photographic services. A "contract photographer" is a
freelance photographer who has an arrangement with a single client
for a relatively long term. The two terms are often used
interchangeably and the definitions are not hard and fast.

Portrait Tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 Portrait Photography Tips for the Holidays
Portrait photography is the art of taking pictures of people. Now whether you do this for family and friends, or just because you like people pictures, you may find these tips helpful in making your portrait photos more polished and professional looking.
1. Clear the clutter. When you take a person's portrait, you want the picture to focus primarily on that person. If you have a lot of clutter behind or around them, it detracts from the person in the picture. So before you shoot, try moving the person to a place where there is little to nothing else around. The middle of a room is an easy option, as is having them stand against a blank wall.
2. Focus on their eyes. Regardless of what else might be in the picture, and regardless of whether anything else is in focus or not... if you have a person's eyes in focus in a portrait photo, it always has much more impact and is considered a better picture overall. The old saying about eyes being a window to the soul actually applies in portrait photography, so if the person's eyes are clear and focused well, the picture will look much better.
3. Try to blur the background. If you have a point and shoot camera, you probably have a control setting dial on the camera that will help with this. Turn the control dial to portrait mode - this is usually indicated by a small icon that looks like a person's head. If you use a DSLR, or you shoot in manual or semi-manual mode with your camera, use a larger aperture setting. This is indicated by smaller numbers such as 5.6, 3.5 and 2.8. In fact, those three aperture settings are often the best ones to use when taking portrait photos, because those tend to blur the background best. A 2.8 aperture setting will give you a much more blurry background than 5.6 will, but 5.6 still does fairly nicely if the background is not too close to the person you're taking a picture of.
4. Get Closer. Yes, closer to the person you're taking a picture of. It's ok to just have a picture of the person's head and shoulders... it's even ok to take a picture of just their face with part of the head missing. The face and eyes of a person is where most of their expression is, so leaving out most of the body in a portrait photograph will often produce much better results.
