They need examples — with, if possible, a distinctly American flavor — of the following techniques. They don't have to be of any subject in particular, but they need to illustrate captions as good (and in one case, bad!) examples of these techniques. They should feature models, or at least urban-looking people (in urban or modern environments), and you MUST have a model release. 1. The inverse square law, lighting a subject with little or no background (even though there would be one nearby).2. An interesting or unusual catchlight (umbrella shape, or something even cooler).3. In low-light conditions (indoor, daylight): Subject standing too near the wall, with an unsightly shadow created by the flash (preferably not an unsightly subject though). Scoopt is an aggregator and distributor of photographs and videos captured by eyewitnesses who have an accidental front row seat to headline-making moments.
In the coming months, news, sport and entertainment imagery from Scoopt that meets Getty Images' stringent editorial quality standards will be released exclusively at http://www.gettyimages.com/editorial, where it will benefit from worldwide visibility and promotional support. Additionally, Getty Images will invest in technology upgrades and other enhancements to Scoopt in order to make the site more accessible to customers, and to better position it for future growth.
"New technology has made it easier to capture and distribute imagery, leading to citizen photojournalism that is increasingly relevant to the news cycle," said Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images.
"While this genre will never replace the award-winning photojournalism for which we're known, it's a highly complementary offering that enables us to meet the evolving imagery needs of a broad customer base."
Since the founding of Scoopt in 2005, the site has supplied the media with arresting imagery from major world events, including:
The tragic Manhattan plane crash that killed New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor in October 2006; digital images captured by a bystander were emailed to Scoopt and appeared on the front page of The Times of London
Fierce January 2006 storms in the U.K., which brought devastation and disruption to large parts of the country
"User-generated content is serving a valuable role in today's communication landscape; safeguards to validate its authenticity are critical," said Hugh Pinney, director of Editorial Photography at Getty Images. Citizen photographers who submit imagery to Scoopt retain copyright while granting the agency a 12-month exclusive license that authorizes re-license to one or more publishers. Contributors will benefit from increased visibility and an extensive network of media contacts, earning a significant percentage of the value for each license issued. Both Getty Images and Scoopt encourage contributors to be respectful and follow a code of ethics for image capture. A Photographic Legend is Gone.......

MONTE ZUCKER1929-2007
After a long and hard fought battle with Cancer, Monte Zucker, the mentor to photographers around the world and a legend in the photo industry passed away in Florida on March 15th.He leaves a legacy of love and inspiration to all who knew him, knew of him and were touched by his quick wit, never ending enthusiasm, infectious smile and the ability to make the complicated simple and the simple, even easier and photography the greatest of pursuits.The world, not only the world of photography is a much better place because of Monte. He gave it all to photography, asking only that everyone that he touched go out and have fun and make better pictures because of him. And photographers around the world, both professional and enthusiast a like have.Monte's legacy continues through us all. Whether we know it not, there's a little bit of Monte in all of us and in every picture we take. Whether we knew him by attending his classes, participating in the Monte Zucker forum, reading his books and articles in the major photo magazines, watching his DVD's or hearing him during his visits on Photo Talk Radio, we've all been affected by him.There's also a more direct way you can honor Monte the mentor, teacher and humanitarian. Millenium Images Launches Sister Agency Wildcard Images
London, Feb. 26, 2007. Millennium Images is delighted to announce the launch of the new sister agency Wildcard Images Ltd. Wildcard Images has been created for the representation of high quality creative imagery from other international agencies. Wildcard already holds collections from Glasshouse (USA), Plainpicture (Germany) and Americana (UK) and will be adding material from several other collections in the coming months.
