Too Many Staged Photos

NEW YORK-- White House photographers aren't looking for a handout these
days. In fact, they've gotten far too many.

While the practice of providing news organizations with staged photos of
events involving the president goes back decades, veteran shooters at
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue say it has become almost a regular occurrence
with the Bush Administration. A review of Associated Press archives
found that during the entire eight years of the Clinton administration,
only 100 handout photos of events were released to the press. During the
first five years of Bush's presidency, more than 500 have been distributed

ADDITIONAL ARTIQUE OPPORTUNITY!

Good News! Since our last message, we now have four places in Old Town Clovis who would like hang artwork. In addition to Trujillo’s Restaurant and Ellie Salon, we now have the Edge and Salsa Restaurant, plus an opportunity to make a presentation to Bobby Salazar’s.

Please submit photos to Lea Adams or Gail Daley by January 30, 2006. As the managers have final approval, we will need to take the photos of your artwork and get approval. We will be setting up for 3 months. At the end of 3 months we will be looking at photos again so that everyone will have the opportunity to submit new artwork. Artwork will be exchanged on the 1st Tuesday of each month between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. Once artwork has been accepted, you may choose what to bring; however, we will need to be notified of how many paintings you will bring each time.

Please be sure to include sizes of the artwork with your photos as some of these places will have size limitations.

The Edge:

The Edge is a trendy boutique, specializing in hot new fashions and jewelry. A lot of their clientele are women in the 16 to 25 year age group. They also have limited space so they need small to medium sized artwork. The owners suggested contemporary artwork that will appeal to their customers.

Salsa Restaurant:

A Mexican restaurant. They have a lot of space so they can take large paintings. The manager would like artwork with a Spanish influence.

Trujillo’s:

Room for 13 large (24 x 36) paintings or 15 to 16 Medium (16 x 20) paintings. The walls are done in primary colors, so paintings with strong, vivid colors are needed. Also, the age group which patronizes the restaurant is in the 35 to 50 group, so the paintings should appeal to this group.

Ellie Salon:

Room for 5 or 6 medium sized paintings. The walls are a soft grey green. The Owner prefers figures of women and landscapes which promote tranquility or serenity.

Presentation Opportunity:

Additionally, Bobby Salazar’s in Clovis would like to see a presentation. They are looking for artwork showing people with drinks or parties. This one is only a presentation, so if any of you have any artwork like this and would like to submit it, please let Lea or me know.

Top 50 spot for Scoopt
According to this independent survey, published in Real Business magazine, Scoopt is up there with some impressive company as one of "the 50 most important British mobile companies to watch. The list looks beyond handset manufacturers and network operators, to reveal the new vibrant and innovative companies that are shaping the future of the mobile industry".

You might not immediately think of Scoopt as a 'mobile' business but hey, that's what we are. The wonderful thing about cameraphones is that you can snap and send a picture live from the scene in seconds - and we can have it on a newsdesk seconds later, making a sale.

Photographers Helped out Britney Spears

Britney Rescued By Paparazzi

Sometimes, even the world's biggest stars need a little bit of help – and sometimes it comes from the most unlikely of sources.

PHOTO GALLERY
On the Scene: Britney's Breakdown
Access Hollywood has learned that Britney Spears and her brother were rescued by paparazzi on a California highway on Sunday evening.

Britney was with her brother, Bryan, driving through Malibu on Sunday when their Ferrari broke down.

In a rare moment of cooperation, the paparazzi (who were trailing the pop princess as usual) helped Britney and Bryan, 29, push the car off to the side of the road, according to a source close to the Spears family.

The shutterbugs then stayed with the siblings until police showed up.

When authorities arrived, Britney and Bryan hopped into the backseat of a squad car and were driven home.

Event Photo Tips-- Use and Modify as needed

* Photograph party preparation and cleanup. Get shots of
the nicest food spreads before guests gobble them up;
click away at the decorations before they're trashed.
Afterward, present the pictures as gifts to the hosts.

* Concentrate on the most animated groups, but make
portraits of individuals, too.

* Look for groups that seem to hold together visually.
Avoid groups with individuals whose backs are to the
camera or who block the camera's view of others in the
group.

* If the gathering is a rare or once-in-a-lifetime event
-- a family reunion, for example -- try to photograph
everyone there. If you leave someone out, you may
regret it later.

* Bring appropriate family and friends together for
loosely posed group portraits.

* Suggest making a group shot of everyone there.

* For better background detail with indoor party shots,
set your point-and-shoot to its slow-sync mode, if
possible, or if it doesn't offer this, fill-flash mode.

* Always have double sets of prints made. This gives you
one set to give away to the people you photograph, and
a second set to keep.
