The Animals Around Us: Photographer Captures Rainbow Array of Animals in New Book

HAMILTON, Ohio, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- "I dedicate this book to all the animals in the world," writes Deborah Oelrich in the dedication of her new book, "Animals" (published by AuthorHouse - http://www.authorhouse.com/). "I also dedicate this book to all the children that will enjoy it." This simple and heartfelt dedication is indicative of the spirit carried throughout Oelrich's book, which features colorful photos of animals from farms, zoos and wild habitats across Ohio and the rest of the United States.

Oelrich's photographs are pure and simple, showcasing the rainbow array of animals she has had the opportunity to capture on film. The cover is a great clue to the wide variety of animals included in Oelrich's book. Featuring a wandering flock of geese, a regal tiger in the midst of grooming itself, a rough and wrinkled rhinoceros, and a horse grazing in a serene field, the cover gives readers just a taste of the rich and clean photography inside.

From a majestic peacock with its tail fanned out in full glory to an enormous manatee gliding gracefully through the water, the animals are portrayed resting, grazing, preening and playing, and each photograph features a straightforward, one-word description of the animal. Oelrich, an amateur photographer who simply enjoys taking pictures pertaining to nature, designed the book so that it would be accessible and valuable to readers of all ages. Very young children can use the book to learn to recognize different animals. Slightly older children can use it as a beginning reading book, learning to identify an animal and its written name. The book can also be used to spark discussion surrounding an animal's environment, eating habits, sounds, and similarities and differences with other animals.

No matter how the book is used, Oelrich hopes that it inspires readers to learn more about each animal on their own. "I want readers to become interested in the animals in our world," she writes. "A reader can see what a stunning world we live in and learn to value what we have around us."

Oelrich lives in Ohio, where - in addition to taking photos - she enjoys basket-weaving, crafts, and hand-making and donating Christmas ornaments to charity. She has worked as a preschool and daycare teacher, and she loves the outdoors, taking walks whenever she can. She is also the author of "Enjoying the Wonders of the World" (published by AuthorHouse).

Age fotostock

Barcelona, Spain, Sept. 20, 2007. Pixtal, the RF brand of the well known stock photo agency age fotostock, launches a new edition of images and CDs to the market. Under the slogan Take Pixtal: vitamins for the imagination, the collection is offering its clients titles as original as gay couples, biochemistry research, female bodies, or relaxing holiday, among many others. Once again, the collection approaches current issues with a very fresh and contemporary vision and look, and these titles it contains are a proof of the diversity that can be found in Pixtal´s content.

This latest release includes 15 new CDs, that add up to 900 images, as well as 1,250 images that are not part of the discs. These numbers, combined with the other two that Pixtal has completed during 2007, makes a total of 52 CDs and nearly 9,000 images added to date this year. This new release enhances the variety of this versatile collection; Pixtal already consists of 350 CDs and over 85,000 images.

Sylvie Cherian's, Director of the International Department at age fotostock, comments are: "We are incrementing the production and promotion of Pixtal constantly to be able to cover demand in an industry that is getting more challenging, so we can meet the expectations of a client that tries to be more competitive day after day. To do this we base ourselves on two basic principles: variety of content and irreproachable technical quality of the images that are on the CDs."

These new CDs and images of Pixtal are available on age fotostock's website and on the international distribution network. Moreover, during the months of October and November, clients that purchase images or CDs for the value of $550 or more at www.agefotostock.com, or through its international network of agents, will receive an original USB drive of 1GB as a gift.

Photo Request -- Please look

Hello Members

As there appears to have been some confusion over this Picture Call, I thought it would be a good idea to confirm exactly what the buyer is looking for.

Overall theme: The evolution of home Christmas decorating from 1837 to the present day. (Please note the word ‘home’ – not commercial shop windows, or city streets – this is about how people have been decorating their houses, indoors and out, since 1837.)

Your illustrations, graphics and photographs should show the different ways families
a) decorate their Christmas trees
b) use evergreens, lights, hanging decorations and cards to create their own unique look. (I can remember long strips of ribbon, floor to ceiling, with cards pinned on and a big bow at the top of each. Then there are cards on strings running all round the room, or cards attached to silver-sprayed branches.) Please don’t show us your designs for single Christmas cards – lovely though they may be, they are not appropriate for this buyer.
c) festoon the exteriors of their houses with lights, waving Santas and more

Upload data:
1. DEADLINE: Thursday September 6th 2007; 24:00 GMT
2. FILESIZE: 300dpi, colour. Pixel dimensions min. 1750 x 2480
3. CODE KEYWORD: BBXMAS (input this among all your other apposite keywords describing the image in full and NEVER use the Code Keyword as your only keyword.)
4. CATEGORISE UNDER: Lifestyle> Homes

If you already have suitable images in your collection on fotoLibra, just add BBXMAS to your other keywords.

And remember:
A) The only way you can make your pictures available for consideration by the buyers in any Picture Call is to upload them to the fotoLibra site ...
B) ... and to include the special Code Keyword among your other keywords.
C) Please do not mark these images as Royalty Free
D) Do not send them to me as there is nothing I can do with them — my opinion would be highly subjective and probably not helpful.
E) Please also make sure that they always match or exceed the requested resolutions and/or file sizes.

Kind regards

Jacqui

New Web Site---- Must See!!!!!!

Friends and Colleagues,

For those who don't know, photobetty is a community of
women mostly photojournalists, spotlighting strong
work by sister shooters, and keeping in touch with
each other and the world, via a website
(www.photobetty.com) and listserv. It was founded by
Stephanie Sinclair, former shooter for the Chicago
Tribune, now freelancing in Bagdad. Now Serena Stucke,
a Columbia College grad
working in NYC, is its chief content editor and
contributor.

She's just posted 3 new stories about 3 women working
on underreported stories about people in Afghanistan,
Kurdistan and Azerbaijan. Their images are beautiful, horrifying and familiar...sometimes all three at once. Captions pop-up when you put your cursor on the enlarged pictures.

So many thoughts and emotions are inspired by these
picture stories.

See below and check it out.

Karen Kring

-------------------------

This in from Serena from www.photobetty.com:

This month's photographers are not only international, award-winning photojournalists, but they are shooting stories that cover regions and situations that have been largely underreported.

I am very proud to be showing photojournalist Jean
Chung's most recent work from Afghanistan (http://www.photobetty.com/jeanchung), as she has recently won the CARE International Award for Humanitarian Reportage. She shares with us an intimate story on a young Afghan mother giving birth and dying from the complications associated with it--a situation that is all too common for women in Afghanistan.

The second Spotlight feature comes from a wonderful
emerging documentary photographer Anastasia
Taylor-Lind
(http://www.photobetty.com/anastasia-taylor-lind).
Anastasia documented a small band of Kurdish guerrilla
fighters called the Peshmerga Force for Women who make
up a third of the PKK--a pretty surprising fact! Her
story comes at a time of relevance as the PKK's
presence in northern Iraq remains a critical issue in
Turkish politics.

Our final new story is shot by social documentary
photographer Rena Effendi (http://www.photobetty.com/renaeffendi), who has been a winner of the Fifty Crows International Fund for Documentary Photography competition and was selected as one of PDN's 30 Emerging Photographers. Rena 's series of images focus on the internally displaced people in her own country of Azerbaijan. Her images give a voice to the widely forgotten about refugees and their inhuman living conditions that persist.
